About
Carlo Rubbia, former Director General of
CERN, started in 1993 with the EET
group a new activity consisting of developing innovative ideas
in the domain of energy production and applications.
He proposed, in particular, the Energy Amplifier, to extract
nucleus energy with the help of accelerator induced
nuclear cascades.
Mission
The EET section has a very strong computational physics background
mainly in model development for particle physics and
accelerator driven systems (ADS). The main tasks of the section
are summarized below:
- Coordination of the CERN FLUKA simulation team,
which is responsible for the accelerator studies
for the LHC beam cleaning elements ie.
Collimation project,
CNGS and future projects.
- Support of the public FLUKA
release.
- Development of new physics models necessary for the study of present
and future projects.
- Coordination and engineering studies for the Transfer Line
Collimation TCDI, TPSG4 and TPSG6
- EURISOL-DS: Coordination of the simulation and engineering
studies of the Multi-MegaWatt target (Task #2)
- Technically responsible for the n_TOF
facility including the n_TOF beam line and the experimental
area and should coordinate CERN's obligations as host laboratory.
- In collaboration with JINR
(Dubna) and IPPE
(Obninsk), responsible for the Fission cross section
measurements with the
FIC
detector at the n_TOF facility.
